Spring City's community pool is likely getting a new snack bar operator this summer, after the borough's Parks and Recreation Committee unanimously voted to recommend approval of a lease agreement with Foam Boss at its Thursday meeting.

Foam Boss is an entertainment company known for hosting foam parties and interactive events for kids, teens, and families. The company has become a familiar presence at local events in Spring City, providing bubbles at this year’s Easter Egg Hunt and organizing a foam party during Community Day last year.

Under the proposed lease, which runs through September 10, Foam Boss would pay $1 to operate the snack bar, with the borough covering utility costs. The snack bar itself is a modest 35-square-foot space equipped with a double sink and countertop — the vendor is responsible for bringing their own equipment, including cooking appliances and refrigeration.

Melissa Fuina, co-owner of Foam Boss, told the committee the business had taken community feedback from last year into account when developing its plans. The goal, she said, is to keep things affordable.

"The idea is to keep it $10 or less,” Fuina said. “It should provide a whole meal for the child for that day."

The planned menu includes hot dogs, pretzels, popcorn, water ice, chips, and canned beverages. Fuina noted the business intentionally chose water ice over ice cream to avoid competing with the ice cream truck that also visits the pool.

Foam Boss also plans to offer catered specialty items two days a week, such as pizza and chicken fingers. Those meals may run slightly above the standard $10 target.

Fuina added that the business is actively hiring to staff the snack bar, with positions paying around $10 per hour. Applicants should be at least 16 years old, though she noted that younger teens who live within walking distance of the pool are welcome to apply.

"We look to the community first before outsourcing to other people," Fuina said. "So if you have a high schooler or middle schooler looking for work, give us a call."

Committee Chair Matt Handley moved to recommend approval of the lease to Spring City Borough Council, which passed unanimously. The lease agreement will now go before council for final approval.

The Spring City Community Pool is open on weekends beginning May 23, and daily starting on June 20. The parking lot is expected to be repaved and striped before the pool opens.
