Spring City Borough is preparing to upgrade a key piece of infrastructure at one of its most active community spaces, with plans to fully repave the parking lot serving Brown Street Park and the Spring City Community Pool.
The project, discussed during the April 6 Borough Council meeting, is part of the borough’s broader biennial road improvement program. While most of that work will be funded through the state’s Liquid Fuels program, Borough Manager Kisha Tyler clarified that the parking lot portion — estimated at approximately $100,000 — will be covered by the borough’s general fund, as Liquid Fuels dollars cannot be used for non-road surfaces like parking areas.
A Long-Needed Upgrade
The planned improvements go beyond a simple resurfacing. According to Tyler, the parking lot will be completely repaved and newly striped — a notable change from the current layout, where only handicap-accessible spaces are marked.
The redesign will also address traffic flow concerns. Moving forward, the lot will operate with a single designated entrance and exit. A secondary access point — which currently connects to the pool area but was never intended to function as a throughway — will be closed off to prevent vehicles from cutting through the site.
