Spring City is set to welcome runners and walkers back to the Spring in the City 5K, an annual community event organized by the borough’s Parks and Recreation Committee, on Friday, May 1.

The race, held in partnership with Bryn Mawr Racing Company, is designed to promote healthy living while bringing residents together for an evening along the Schuylkill River.

A Flat, Scenic Course

The out-and-back course follows a stretch of the Schuylkill River Trail, offering a flat route suited for both experienced runners and those opting for a more casual walk.

Participants will start and finish at the Bridge Street trailhead in the Riveredge Square parking lot, located behind the former Burger King along Riverside Drive.

All ages are welcome to participate.

Registration and Logistics

Registration is set at $25 in advance and $30 on race day, with walk-up signups available. Race day packet pickup begins at 5 p.m. with the race beginning at 6 p.m. and the walk starting five minutes later. The event will be professionally chip-timed, with results posted online following the race.

Participants who register by Sunday, April 19, are guaranteed an event T-shirt.

Awards will be presented to overall male and female finishers, as well as the top three finishers in each age group:

  • 14 and under

Local Sponsors and Community Elements

In addition to the race itself, organizers have incorporated several local touches to enhance the experience.

Participants will receive a free ticket to the show at The Gem Music Hall after the race featuring Grateful Dead tribute band Zendog. Raffle prizes will also be provided by local businesses including Alisan Road Mercantile, Bad Barber, and Chaos Piercing.
