Spring City officials opened their March 2 borough council meeting by recognizing acts of service that span both a single moment of bravery and nearly half a century of municipal work.
During a brief presentation at the start of the meeting, Mayor Adam Alberico and borough council issued proclamations honoring Spring City Police Officer John Sidiras for his response to a dangerous incident in December and recognizing the retirement of longtime borough employee Dan Beutler after 46 years with the Streets Department.
Police Officer Recognized
Mayor Alberico presented a proclamation commending Officer Sidiras for his actions during a Dec. 8, 2025 incident involving a trespassing suspect at a local business.
According to the proclamation and remarks during the meeting, Sidiras located the suspect after responding to the call. The individual fled on foot into traffic, creating a hazardous situation for motorists and bystanders. During the encounter, the suspect assaulted Sidiras.
Despite being injured, Sidiras remained on scene and continued working to secure the situation until additional officers arrived. With assistance from responding officers, including Officer Bob Greenwood of the SFASD School Police Department and Spring City Police Chief Ryan White, the suspect was eventually taken into custody.
Alberico said the situation could have escalated further without the officers’ efforts.
“This could have been a much worse situation if it wasn’t for you and the responding officers,” the mayor said during the presentation.
The proclamation states that Sidiras’ actions reflected professionalism, restraint, and a commitment to public safety, crediting him with helping restore order during a rapidly developing incident.
Alberico also thanked the responding officers, noting the importance of training and teamwork in handling difficult situations.
“These are heroes every day who put themselves on the line,” he said.
Borough Honors Longtime Streets Supervisor
Council President Donald Shaner then presented a second proclamation recognizing the retirement of Beutler, who concluded his career with the borough on Jan. 30 after 46 years of service.
Beutler began working for Spring City on Jan. 10, 1980 as a laborer in the borough’s Streets Department. Over the decades, he rose through the ranks to become Streets Department supervisor.
During that time, Beutler played a central role in maintaining borough infrastructure, including roads, stormwater systems, parks, and municipal facilities such as the community pool.
Officials said his deep knowledge of the borough — shaped in part by growing up in the Spring City area — helped guide his work managing street maintenance and public works operations.
In reading the proclamation, Shaner thanked Beutler for his long tenure and dedication to the borough.
“On behalf of the Spring City Borough Council, past and present, sincere appreciation is extended to Dan for his outstanding service,” the proclamation states.
Council members and staff also noted the extra hours and long-term commitment Beutler provided during his decades with the borough. The proclamation formally congratulated Beutler on his retirement and wished him well in the next chapter of his life.
