Overall crime in Spring City fell 26.5 percent over the first six months of the year compared with the same period a year earlier, Mayor Adam Alberico told borough council on Monday evening.
Alberico said the most serious offenses, categorized as Part 1 crimes, dropped 45 percent, while Part 2 crimes fell 22.7 percent. He described the figures as the result of an evaluation prompted by community concerns about speeding and crime.
In Pennsylvania boroughs such as Spring City, the mayor is responsible for police operations and emergency management.
"Overall crime is now down 26.5 percent," Alberico said, adding that the improvement reflected the work of the police department and "the leadership of our chief."
Police Chief Ryan White provided context for the statistics, explaining that the percentages compared the first six months of 2026 to the same six-month period in 2025. He said part of the increase in overall police activity came from a deliberate effort to address speeding.
"We had a plan on how to approach that utilizing the radar speed signs that we have that give us feedback on the speeds and the traffic volumes throughout town," White said. He said officers moved the signs around town, reviewed the data, and concentrated enforcement in areas with the highest speeds.
