Spring City Borough Council will hold a special meeting on Monday, March 16, at 6:30 p.m. to consider appointing a new member to fill a soon-to-be vacant council seat.

The meeting will take place at Borough Hall, 6 South Church Street, and will also include consideration of an ordinance authorizing the issuance of general obligation bonds.

The council vacancy stems from the resignation of Councilor John McGuire, whose departure becomes effective March 9. McGuire recently announced that he is stepping down to focus on building Spring-Ford Press, a local news organization serving the Spring-Ford area.

Under Pennsylvania law, borough council has 30 days from the effective date of the resignation to appoint a replacement. Borough solicitor Matt Hovey previously told council the appointment must occur by April 8.

The individual selected will serve in the position until the next municipal election cycle, which is scheduled for 2027.

Borough officials are inviting interested residents to apply for the appointment. Candidates are asked to submit a resume to Borough Manager Kisha Tyler by Wednesday, March 11, and plan to attend the March 16 meeting, where council will consider applicants. Resumes can be emailed to Borough@SpringCityPA.gov or delivered to Borough Hall.

During the March 2 council meeting, McGuire recommended former councilor Paul Kern for the role. Kern previously served on borough council and remains involved in the community through the Parks & Recreation Committee and the Emergency Services Committee. Council took no action on that recommendation at the time.

Alongside the appointment discussion, council will also consider an ordinance authorizing the borough to incur non-electoral debt through the issuance of general obligation bonds. The March 16 meeting may also include additional items, with a full agenda expected to be posted in advance.
