Limerick Township will celebrate the grand reopening of Manderach Memorial Playground on Saturday, August 15, just before the start of the township’s annual Community Day festivities.

A ribbon-cutting ceremony is scheduled for 11:30 a.m. at the entrance to the playground at Limerick Community Park. The ceremony will mark the reopening of the rebuilt playground before Community Day brings businesses, first responders, vendors, and residents together for an afternoon of family-friendly activities from 12 to 3 p.m.

The Pottstown Mercury reported last year that the township awarded a $2.4 million contract to River Valley Recreation to replace the 27-year-old playground after heavy use and deterioration made some equipment increasingly difficult and expensive to maintain. The playground was scheduled to close in November 2025 for construction, with the replacement designed to improve accessibility for children with disabilities and be more accommodating to children on the autism spectrum.

Community Day, presented by Limerick Township Parks and Recreation and the Spring-Ford Chamber of Commerce, will feature a business expo, artisans, food trucks, a beer garden, music and entertainment, emergency services activities, and inflatables.

This year's celebration also comes as Limerick marks its 300th anniversary.

Hares Hill Brewing Company will operate the Community Day beer garden and has created two limited-edition beers commemorating the township's tricentennial: Tri Chéad, a New England IPA, and 1726 Red Ale, an Irish red ale.

The festivities will serve as a lead-in to Limerick's larger Tricentennial Celebration planned for next month. That event is scheduled for Saturday, September 26, from 3 to 10 p.m. at Waltz Golf Farm and will include live music, food, and fireworks as Limerick looks back on 300 years of history.
