Limerick Township is accepting applications to fill two vacancies on its nine-member planning commission, with officials asking interested residents to apply before the township selects replacements.
The openings were discussed at the commission's Thursday, October 8, meeting after the resignations of former chair William DeGideo, who was appointed to the Limerick Township Board of Supervisors in September, and member Mark Zasowski.
Vice Chair Michael Frank, who led Thursday’s meeting, said applications would be accepted until October 20, with the goal of having the board of supervisors appoint two new members before the commission's November 12 meeting.
One vacant seat carries a term ending December 31, 2028, and the other a term ending December 31, 2029. Residents interested in serving can obtain the volunteer application form on the township’s website and submit it by email to info@limerickpa.org or in person at the Limerick Township Municipal Building, 646 W. Ridge Pike.
The planning commission reviews development proposals for the township, assessing feasibility, traffic and area impacts, and compliance with township codes before forwarding recommendations to the board of supervisors. The group typically meets on the second Thursday of the month at 7 p.m.
With the chair position open, commission members nominated and selected Greg Richardson as the new chair. Richardson was not present at the meeting, and members confirmed he had agreed to accept the position.
DeGideo Thanks Fellow Members
DeGideo was appointed to the board of supervisors after former Supervisor Linda Iriwn announced her resignation. During public comment at the close of Thursday’s meeting, he addressed the commission he had led for the better part of the past year.
"I just wanted to make sure I thanked everyone here, my fellow members, staff, the consultants," DeGideo said.
DeGideo said the year had brought uncertainty, noting that the arrival of data center proposals was significant. He credited the group's preparation and teamwork, including the performance of newer members.
"If we didn't execute like that, I don't think I would have been in consideration to become a supervisor in only nine months of work with this board," DeGideo said. "So I do regret not being up on this stage with you, but I think it's due to working with each and every one of you that I'm on the other board now."
Vice Chair Frank, presiding over his first meeting in the chair role, thanked DeGideo and township staff for their support.
