Township officials now estimate the cost of vandalism at Limerick Community Park has exceeded $11,000, with the final total expected to rise once replacement benches are purchased.
Providing an update during Tuesday's board of supervisors meeting, Township Manager Dan Kerr said the township has tallied about $11,000 in damage so far but is still awaiting the cost of replacing four damaged benches. He said the final total could climb to about $13,000.
The single largest expense has been replacing three portable toilets that were destroyed during the June incident. Kerr said the township was responsible for replacing the units because they were damaged while on township property, at a cost of about $6,000.
Kerr also publicly thanked Ark Plumbing of Bechtelsville for offering to donate labor to help repair plumbing damaged during the vandalism.
"Our guys were able to do it all, but I just want to thank Ark Plumbing in Bechtelsville for reaching out," Kerr said.
The vandalism, first reported by township officials last month, included broken restroom fixtures, clogged toilets, damaged pickleball equipment, destroyed playground benches, and other property damage at the community park where the Manderach Memorial Playground is located. At the time, officials said the estimated losses exceeded the $2,000 threshold for felony charges, and Police Chief Bob Matalavage said the department intended to pursue those responsible "to the fullest extent."
Spring-Ford Press has contacted the Limerick Township Police Department for an update on the investigation and will update this story if additional information becomes available.
